Types of Lingual Braces

Dr Perry specialises in three lingual systems, WIN, Incognito and Forestadent.

WIN DW Lingual System

The WIN appliance is the ‘next generation’ of the Incognito lingual appliance from the world renowned orthodontist Dr Dirk Wiechmann.

The WIN system is an evolution of the Incognito system, this was also developed by Dr Dirk Wiechmann. WIN is a custom made brace. Being custom made ensures a better fit, and less impact on speech. The updates that Dr Dirk Wiechmann sought to make are based around making the brackets smaller and easier to manipulate.

It is fair to say that sometimes lingual appliances can be a little more uncomfortable to start with and take a bit more time for acclimatisation. Most orthodontic problems are treatable with WIN.

Benefits of the WIN braces system include:

Predictable results
Suitable for all ages
Extremely flat design = improved comfort
For simple to complex cases
German engineering = precision manufacturing

Incognito Lingual Braces

Incognito braces are an advanced generation of brace that is hidden discreetly on the back of the teeth, not on the front like conventional ‘train tacks’. This allows people to go about their daily routine without feeling self-conscious because their braces are virtually invisible from the outside.

Incognito braces are suitable for all age groups – children, adolescents and adults who want to correct their tooth position.

The brace is custom made for each patient to maximise comfort and ensure precise results, this is achieved by using the latest computer technology when creating the brace.

Dr Ronan Perry is one of the leading providers of Incognito braces in Ireland, and has completed several cases. Costs vary depending upon individual needs, but on average treatment can start from €4500.

There are many reasons to choose Incognito braces:
Customisation: they are individually designed and produced just for you
Aesthetics: Because they are placed on the back of the teeth they are virtually invisible from the outside
Time: Visible success in only a short time
Comfort: Most patients experience minimal discomfort and speech interference, after just a short adjustment period, you will be able to eat and speak normally
Reliable correction of all types of incorrect tooth positions
Suitable for all age groups
No risk of decalcification to the front tooth surface
Since the brackets are made from gold alloy, nickel allergies are not a problem.

The Forestadent system represents a cost-effective and simple alternative to other lingual systems. This brace system, from Germany, has a simple design using standardised parts. The brackets can be bonded directly on to a patient’s teeth without the need for any time-consuming laboratory work. However, Dr Perry does carry out some ‘in clinic’ customisation of brackets to make them more comfortable for his patients.

Dr Perry uses Forestadent lingual braces to treat relatively minor cases. Patients that would be ideal candidates for Forestadent are those with minor crookedness of the front teeth, or those patients who have suffered some minor relapse and are looking for a simple realignment of a few teeth.

Forestadent braces are not so suitable for complex treatment involving extractions, crossbites, jaw surgery, etc. Like all lingual braces, these take some getting used to, patients should expect some lisping for a few weeks.
